Description
Well, after 6 long years of dating, my sister's boyfriend finally proposed to her. So, as an engagement present I decided to do a portrait of them. This was drawn from a photo. I used standard drafting pencils, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, and a 6B on bristol vellum paper. Size is around 11x15. Took a looooong time, probably around 30 hours total to complete. And all within 4 days, lol. So I'm exhausted.
Oh, and the digital absolutely murdered, and I mean murdered the texturing and all the finer detail within the deep shadows. GAH! Makes me so frustrated. If only I had a scanner...

Do you have a graphic program like photoshop or you could get GIMP for free. I use GIMP and it can get a lot of the detail out of a digital picture. Of course you have to learn how that is done. But there are lots of tutorials online that teach you. Just a thought.
I really like this picture though. Unfortunately the best way to draw anything if from real life but most people don't have time to pose. And it is hard to make it a surprise if they do.
But this is great just the same. I bet they really appreciate it.
